A privacy policy with nothing to hide.
SpellFix runs entirely on your computer. We don't collect anything. The short version: there's nothing to opt out of, because there's nothing being collected.
Information we collect
None. SpellFix has no account system, no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporter. Your text, your settings, your downloaded models and your purchase status all stay on your computer. This applies to both the macOS and Windows versions.
On-device processing
Correction, reshaping and translation run locally using AI models stored on your computer. Your text never leaves your device, and no network request is made during these operations. On macOS, SpellFix uses Apple's on-device Foundation Model, or optional models you download (Qwen, Gemma, SmolLM, and others). On Windows, SpellFix runs on-device models through its bundled inference engine. In all cases the models run entirely on your computer — you can verify this with a network monitor such as Little Snitch on macOS.
The only network activity SpellFix may perform is:
- Checking for updates — through the Mac App Store on macOS, or the Microsoft Store on Windows.
- Downloading additional AI models, only when you explicitly request a new model from Settings → Models.
- Validating your purchase — via StoreKit on macOS, or the Microsoft Store on Windows.
On macOS these connections are handled by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy; on Windows, purchase validation is handled by the Microsoft Store. SpellFix has no backend of its own, and your text is never transmitted.
In-app purchase
The Pro upgrade is sold through the platform store — Apple's App Store on macOS, the Microsoft Store on Windows. We never receive your payment information, name, or address. The store provides us only with anonymized, aggregate purchase counts — no per-user data, no identifiers, no contact details.
Third-party SDKs
None. SpellFix does not embed any analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or third-party tracking code, on any platform. The app links only against the operating system's frameworks and the local AI runtime.
Permissions we request
On macOS, SpellFix runs as a system Service (“Correct with SpellFix”). You enable its keyboard shortcut once in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services (⌃⌥⌘C by default). When you trigger it, macOS hands SpellFix the text you selected and replaces it with the correction — SpellFix never monitors, logs, or records your keystrokes. It asks for one permission:
- Accessibility — required to read your text selection and replace it with the corrected version. This permission is used only locally and never transmitted.
On Windows, SpellFix requires no special runtime permission: it reads and replaces your selection through standard system APIs. On either platform, your keystrokes and text are never logged, stored, or transmitted.
Data retention
Since we don't collect anything, there's nothing to retain. Settings and downloaded models stay on your computer until you uninstall the app or remove them manually from Settings → Models.
Children's privacy
SpellFix is not directed to children under 13. Since the app does not collect personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect information from children either.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected here with the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes — on the Mac App Store (macOS) and the Microsoft Store (Windows).
